Wizard of Oz Cake v.2

This cake was all Almond White Velvet Cake with Chocolate Buttercream filling and iced in Vanilla Buttercream. The decorations are made from gum paste and yes, the board is covered in fondant…and yes, all those squares are individually cut out and placed…I’m crazy!

Your cake is beautiful. I am having a Wizard of Oz themed Halloween party/40th birthday party celebration. So, I need to make a cake!! I’ve never made a cake so sophisticated before, but I’m excited about the challenge. My favorite part of your cake is the rainbow at the top. Would you be willing to share how you molded it — it looks so perfect!!

    Again, your cake is amazing,

  2. Tammy,

Thank you for your comments! For the rainbow, I used a Makin’ Clay clay extruder and well-kneaded/softened gumpaste (for the record…the extruder has never been used for clay and is exclusively for fondant/gumpaste in my kitchen!). I extruded the ropes and then glued them together. I used skewers on either end of the rainbow to help it stay in the cake after it dried. Once dried, I painted it with a mixture of gel food color and vodka.

Best of luck with your baking/decorating! I’d love it if you sent me a pic of the cake when you’re finished! I like to see how my cakes inspire others work! Email it to cakeislife @ gmail dot com!

    Happy Baking!
