Birthdays (the grownups)

Coach Purse Cake

Coach Purse Cake

I like being able to create cakes that look like things besides cake! This one is one after my own heart…who doesn’t wish they had a handbag made out of cake (shh boys, you just don’t understand!) Happy Birthday, Jennifer!

Catching Up (AGAIN!)

I’ve included Birthday, Holiday and a Religious cake from the past few weeks! You can click on each picture to make it bigger and bring up a description of it! Thanks for being patient with me! More cakes to come in a few days!

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring Tree Trunk Cake

Spring Tree Trunk Cake

I made this cake for a school’s auction.  I love how all of the elements came together…especially the fungus!  Their theme was “God doing new works”…I think Spring fits in perfectly!  The entire cake was around 14-15″.  The little bunny was around 2″ long and about 1 1/2″ tall!

Sweet 16 and Baseball

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

There have only been a few instances where people have asked me to recreate a cake that I have previously done before.  Most times, I will change elements of the design to make it a little new and fresh.  I think this is the first time I’ve kept with the original design so closely!  I love this cake design…it’s just so fun!  The mom wanted it tweaked a little to include the 16-year-old’s favorite colors: pink, orange and teal.  I love how they look like sherbet!  And I love the addition of the pearl luster too to make it shimmer!  Happy Sweet 16, Elly!

Grandma’s 80th Birthday Cake

80th Birthday Cake

80th Birthday Cake

This is the cake I did for my Grandma’s 80th birthday this past weekend. It is a culmination of some of her ‘loves’…traveling, teaching and gardening.

The bottom layer was a suitcase covered in edible luggage stickers from some of the places she’s traveled.  The next tier was the “teacher” tier and it had an edible blackboard, an apple made from puffed rice cereal treats and a turtle.  I did the top tier of her birthday cake with a flower pot made out of cake and the sugar Ranunculus flowers because for as long as I’ve been alive (and much longer I’m sure) she’s had envious really nice gardens in her homes.  The Plumeria blossoms were on the cake because she loved Hawaii so much she bought a pair of Plumeria earrings (which she happened to be wearing that day!)

Happy Birthday, Grandma!  I really enjoyed planning out and making your birthday cake!  You are a wonderful inspiration to me–your determination, stamina, hard work, thoughtfulness, caring, compassion and so much more!  I love you!

“How does one thank you for such an incredible gift–your cake, your talent, your time–all precious…a gift like that has such a short life, but it will last in my memory.” ~Grandma

Flowers & Butterflies

Butterflies & Flowers 1st Birthday Cake

Butterflies & Flowers 1st Birthday Cake

I LOVE girly cakes!  This one was based off the plates for the party (Hugs N Stitches).  I love the colors!  This is the first time I’ve done a stacked buttercream cake without borders and I LOVE the way it came out…very clean!

The remaining cakes from the weekend

Beach Birthday Cake

Beach Birthday Cake

This cake was loosely based off of the partyware for the birthday party.  I’ve wanted to try the plumeria flower for a long time and have had a tutorial printed for over a year, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity!  I love this cake…it makes me really just want to pull up a beach chair and read a book under the sun!  It’s hard to see from the picture, but there were actually two different borders on this cake.  The one you can’t really see was a “wave” pattern on the other side.  I used a white and blue striped bag to get a whitecap effect…wish I would have gotten a picture of it!

Soccer Birthday Cake

Soccer Birthday Cake

This cake was for a young man that got this soccer cake last year for his birthday…maybe next year, we’ll try and change it up a bit! :)

Happy Birthday, Jackson!

Playing Catch-up

Okay, I’m a few cakes behind and I have another two I’m currently working on.

The first cake was for a mother’s birthday.  It happened to be Mother’s day weekend.  The family didn’t want to focus on how old their mom was, but who she is to the people in her family…hence the flowers with the names written on them.  The cupcakes went with the cake.

Graduation Cap Cake

The second cake was for a graduation celebration at my husband’s work.  Three of his co-workers were graduating.

Gift Box Wedding Cake

The “cake gods” were smiling on me today!  I made an almost-last-minute decision to deliver this cake in pieces and assemble on-site.  Boy am I glad I made that decision!  The roads to get to the venue were windy, hilly, pot-holey and SUPER bumpy!  I’m 100% positive that had I stacked it, it would either not have made it, or I would still be trying to drive it there…very, very slowly!  The beautiful bride is a cousin of a few of my cousins and she chose a GORGEOUS place to be married!  The venue was almost out in the woods and had lots of windows viewing the surrounding trees.  I wish I would have taken some pictures, but guest were starting to arrive as I finished.

Congratulations, Michelle and David!  May you have many, many happy years together!  It was a real pleasure working with you to create your special cake!

Simple Girly Birthday Cake

Simple Girly Birthday Cake

Another cake from this weekend…this was a very simple, small cake that I made for a birthday party.  It was made to look like the party ware.

Emily ~ I just wanted to email you and tell you how absolutely adorable and wonderful the cake was for my sister’s party.  Everyone could not stop talking about it.  I was so excited about it I almost did wait until present time to show it off.  It also tasted as good as it looked.   I just cannot say enough outstanding things about it.  It was perfect!  Thank you again for delivering it.  Your card is on my fridge and I have bragged to all of my friends at work how cute it was.  We will definitely be ordering in the future. ~ Jennifer
