Bowling, Birthday & Bishop

Bowling Birthday Cake

Bowling Birthday Cake

This cake was ordered by a wife for the surprise birthday to celebrate the 30th birthday and a 300 game for her husband.  This cake was fun to make and also the first time I’ve used an airbrush!

Emily makes the most amazing cakes around. She made the bowling cake for my husbands 30th birthday party and it was a hit (picture on website.) Many of the Birthday guest asked for her contact info and have used her for more than one cake. I truly believe she can make any cake idea into reality. You dream it and she creates it. ~ Bethany

Cake for the Bishop

Cake for the Bishop

Dad asked me to make a cake for his Church.  Their bishop was coming to their Church for a visit.  The fondant cutout was NOT as easy as it looks!

Birthdays…

The sunflower cake was done about a week ago for my very best girly friend’s birthday.  That cake smelled GOOOOOD!

The Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup cake was for a 6-year old’s birthday…good thing his name started with an “r”…really made the top easy!

From the weekend!

Sorry it’s taken me a long time to post these, but this was a super busy weekend!  Along with the cakes, we had friends staying with us and my sister was throwing a House-Warming Party.

Surprises to come…so keep visiting!  One involves apples and the other pumpkins!

Two and 21

This was a birthday cake weekend!  The first was a party for a young lady turning 21 and the second was for the cutest little red-head turning 2!  I learned a new trick this week that helps speed up the drying time on gum paste.  If you turn your oven light on, put the item in the oven that you want to dry and close the door, the drying time significantly decreases!  The items on the 21st birthday cake were all done this way.  Just remember, if you use this technique, just make sure EVERYONE that lives with you knows…the smell of burning gum paste is NOT pleasant!  I just left a note for all to see!

What  difference 2 years and some classes makes!  This is the cake I did almost 2 years ago for my nephew’s 1st birthday!

Happy Birthday, Ben!

Today is my oldest son’s 4th birthday!  One of his favorite things right now is Cars.  He loves the movies, has an almost-complete set of the character cars and has a TON of Hot Wheels, so it was only fitting that his birthday cake be a Lightening McQueen!  This is my first attempt at a 3-D sculpted cake and I love the way it came out!

May you have a FABULOUSLY wonderful birthday, Ben!  I love you!

Yes…ANOTHER New Cake Flavor

I’ll start off by saying that my son, Ben is BRILLIANT!  His birthday is Sunday and I asked him what flavor cake he wanted.  He thought for a moment and said, “Peanut Butter”.  Um…ok!  I love pb just as much as he does and I’m always up for a challenge, so peanut butter he’ll have!  I wanted a cake that would be sturdy too, because his cake is going to be a carved Lightening McQueen.  So I adapted a pound cake recipe that I love.  Oh yeah baby…it’s peanut butter!  The whole house smells like I’ve baked peanut butter cookies!

So, what goes with peanut butter, you ask?  The first thing that comes to mind is chocolate (hello…who doesn’t love a Reeses PB cup now and again…or several!).  I have a chocolate ganache recipe that I’ve been wanting to try too.  This one is whipped and makes a FABULOUSLY smooth, creamy, chocolatey icing for the PB cupcakes I made.  What else goes with PB?  Jelly!  I had all intentions to fill the cupcakes with Raspberry Preserves, but was so elated with the flavor of the whipped ganache that I “forgot”…okay, I was consumed in trying not to lick the spatula every time it came out of the mixing bowl!  I did, however smear some onto one of the cupcakes after it was unwrapped and let me tell you, it was DIVINE!

Without further ado (or rambling)…I’ll introduce the Peanut Butter Pound Cake with Dark Chocolate Whipped Ganache (Gina…if you’re reading this…this icing will definitely be something you’ll want to try for one of your next cakes…you’ll love it!)

Farm-Themed Cake

These cakes were ordered by a woman from our church. Her daughter and nephew are turning 1 and a second nephew is turning 2.

Happy Birthday to Dia, Charlie and Sam!

This cake really set the theme for my daughter’s and nephews’ farm birthday party! But, most of all, everyone RAVED about how delicious both cakes were — one was chocolate with raspberry filling, and the other was yellow with lemon curd filling — moist and DELICIOUS! ~Diane
