Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

Sweet 16 Birthday Cake

There have only been a few instances where people have asked me to recreate a cake that I have previously done before.  Most times, I will change elements of the design to make it a little new and fresh.  I think this is the first time I’ve kept with the original design so closely!  I love this cake design…it’s just so fun!  The mom wanted it tweaked a little to include the 16-year-old’s favorite colors: pink, orange and teal.  I love how they look like sherbet!  And I love the addition of the pearl luster too to make it shimmer!  Happy Sweet 16, Elly!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Damask Wedding Cake

Damask Wedding Cake

I love the way this cake came out!  I just wish the picture could have!  The room was decorated just like the table…Green table clothes with the damask runners.  It very St. Patrick’s Day without being in-your-face St. Patrick’s Day!  The room was gorgeous…what’s not to love?  Green…good!  Damask…good!  I thoroughly enjoyed making this cake!

Giraffe-Themed Birthday Party

I created this package for a cute little man turning 1!  The cake, cookies and figures were embellished with hand-painting.  The smash cake was made to look like a giraffe.  I love the way the whole design came together!

Birthdays & Babies

The first 2 cakes were birthday cakes. I love it when cake requests come in for the same weekend that are fairly similar! I also love it when flavors match, but these two were very different! The gift box cake was Dark Chocolate Cake with Coconut Filling. The 30th birthday cake’s bottom layer was Banana Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Filling and the top layer was Vanilla White Cake with Orange Curd Filling. I like it when people are adventurous with their cake flavors too!

The cookies were for a baby shower. They were handpainted to match the invitations to the party.

Filling in the Blanks!

Yet another catch-up post!  For starters, there is an actual contact form now on my Contact page, so now you can use it!

Next, here are a few cakes that I haven’t blogged about yet!

And the Topsy Turvy Cake Winner is…

Topsy Turvy Vintage Toy Baby Shower Cake

Topsy Turvy Vintage Toy Baby Shower Cake

The winner of the Topsy Turvy Cake from my class is:
Finding that winner proved to be a little more challenging than I expected, since no one followed the rules for posting comments!  I gave you all the benefit of the doubt though and created an Excel spreadsheet with everyone’s name on it and added multiples of names for becoming Facebook Fans, Twitter Followers or Blog Subscribers.  Then I copied and pasted the list into the “randomizer” at Random.org.  After putting them in random order, the winner was Kathie Opel.

Kathie chose to bring her cake to her friend’s baby shower.  The theme of the shower was “Vintage Toys”.  The flags came from the design on her invitations.  I’m thrilled with how this cake turned out!  The class was very fun…great company!  I learned some great techniques for making the Topsy Turvy Cake structurally sound.  I will, however, be doing the Topsy Turvy Cake a little differently in the future.  The cake will be a 6″ round with a 10″ round on the bottom.  It should really even have another tier to get the full effect too!  And it will have tapered tiers (larger at the top than at the bottom).

Congratulations to Kathie and to her friend Cara!

“I can’t thank you enough for the gorgeous cake!  It was perfect, and delicious as well!  Thank you so much!” ~ Kathie

Oktoberfest Beer Stein Cake

Oktoberfest Beer Stein Groom's Cake

This cake was requested by a mom for her son’s groom’s cake as a surprise for their rehearsal dinner. It was delivered to a local brewery’s bottling plant that also serves as a restaurant and banquet hall. It was fun bringing the cake past all the customers at the brewery!  I should note that this cake was a total of about 20″ high and 9″ around.  The logo on the front was about 10″x6″ and the pretzel was about 6″ across!  It sat on a 20″ board.  This sucker was HUGE!  And according to the mom, people were licking the plates clean…I love it!

Pool Ball Cupcake Groom's Cake

Pool Ball Cupcake Groom's Cake

This cake went along with the Birch Tree Wedding Cake from this post. The bride wanted to surprise her future husband with a cool groom’s cake. I really liked how a simple design looks so cool!  And this bride was a fun one to work with!

Grandma’s 80th Birthday Cake

80th Birthday Cake

80th Birthday Cake

This is the cake I did for my Grandma’s 80th birthday this past weekend. It is a culmination of some of her ‘loves’…traveling, teaching and gardening.

The bottom layer was a suitcase covered in edible luggage stickers from some of the places she’s traveled.  The next tier was the “teacher” tier and it had an edible blackboard, an apple made from puffed rice cereal treats and a turtle.  I did the top tier of her birthday cake with a flower pot made out of cake and the sugar Ranunculus flowers because for as long as I’ve been alive (and much longer I’m sure) she’s had envious really nice gardens in her homes.  The Plumeria blossoms were on the cake because she loved Hawaii so much she bought a pair of Plumeria earrings (which she happened to be wearing that day!)

Happy Birthday, Grandma!  I really enjoyed planning out and making your birthday cake!  You are a wonderful inspiration to me–your determination, stamina, hard work, thoughtfulness, caring, compassion and so much more!  I love you!

“How does one thank you for such an incredible gift–your cake, your talent, your time–all precious…a gift like that has such a short life, but it will last in my memory.” ~Grandma
