September’s Birthday Cakes

FINALLY, a blog post…with content and pictures!! Don’t fall off your chairs, folks…I know it’s been a while! I’ve decided that instead of doing separate posts for each cake, that I would group them into categories! I’ll start off with the birthday cakes from the month of September (and a few from the end of August too!).

***Click on each of the pictures for a description of the cakes!***

Golf Birthday Cake

This cake was fun!  I love the argyle!  I’ve seen it a few times on cakes and thought I’d give it a try…I like the results!  This is the first buttercream cake I’ve done that hasn’t had a border around the bottom…love the way that turned out too!

To the Dogs

I made this cake for my youngest son’s 3rd birthday.  To say my son loves dogs is a HUGE understatement, so his cake was perfect for him!  The puppies were modeled after his best friends: Cooper, Owen and Brewster!  Here are pictures of all of them together:

Barn Birthday Cake

Barn Birthday Cake

This cake was for a really cute little 2-year-old!  When his mommy asked him what he wanted on his cake he said he wanted tractors and cows!  So cute!  I love making the animals for these farm-themed cakes!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Lucas!  Hope you got everything you could ever wish for!

Here’s a collage of the details:

Golf Bag Graduation Cake

Golf Bag Graduation Cake

Golf Bag Graduation Cake

This cake was MASSIVE!  It served 150 and was about 28″ tall!  It was made for a girl graduating from high school this year.  She played golf throughout high school and was getting ready to play golf in college.  It’s hard to tell from the picture, but the “towel” by the grad cap is “dirty and used” and the one on the bag is “new and white”…signifying her transition.  I had fun with this cake, from it’s conception to it’s delivery (although that was stressful after what happened to this cake, that was all I kept thinking about!  Thank you to my Dad who helped me construct the board it sat upon and to my husband, who “hugged” the cake the entire 25 miles to deliver!

Congratulations Elyse!  May your journey be fun and rewarding!  Good luck at Eastern!

And just so that you can see the massiveness of this cake, here is a picture of the cake just after it was stacked on the board and covered with buttercream.  Notice the coke can sitting next to the cake?  This thing was huge!  It took about 8 1/2 pounds of fondant just to cover this cake (by the way, I SO NEED A SHEETER if anyone has a spare that they would be willing to part with!).  In total, there were 12 cake layers, about 13 pounds of fondant and 2 1/2 BIG batches of buttercream!  Not to mention a full bag of Oreos!

Graduation Cakes and Some Strays

So this has been a SUPER busy week.  These are only 2 of 4 cakes this week (and a bonus one I haven’t had a chance to upload yet until now).  I’ll upload the rest later this weekend!

Preschool Graduation Cake

Preschool Graduation Cake

The first one is one that I was asked to make for my son’s preschool graduation.  I had a lot of fun making it, although I’m going to have to try to figure out what is wrong with the black ink on my edible image printer, because all of the writing ended up having to be hand-painted on…and I don’t write straight, much less paint words straight!  I’m happy with how it turned out and everyone seemed to be enjoying it!  Congrats, Ben…you’re going to LOVE kindergarten!

Purple Polka Dotted Grad Cake

Purple Polka Dotted Grad Cake

This cake was for a local grad.  The school colors were purple and white…yes, that’s purple…for some reason, that color doesn’t photograph well…perhaps it’s the cloudy day!  Congratulations, Jordan!

Normally, when someone asks me to do a cake from my gallery, I like to change it up a little (or reinvent the wheel).  I LOVE the design of this cake, so I really didn’t want to do anything major to change it.  I did do a few minor things, but mainly it’s the same!  Happiest of Fifth Birthdays to you Jewel!

The Cake That Almost Was…

Movie-Themed Cake

Movie-Themed Cake

Back in August, I was contacted by a school to make a cake for their fundraising auction. Over the last several months, we’ve emailed back and forth to come up with the perfect cake for their event. I spent a few hours designing it, several hours in the last week getting the decorations finished so they had time to dry, a few hours baking, and then several more hours decorating the cake. When I left to deliver it, it looked like the above.

Remember the twins?  Here are their baby shower cakes, one and two.  And their christening cake.  Well, they just turned ONE!  They are in love with the chicken from the Sprout Network, Chica…so Chicas they got!  And the sun, well I’ve decided to call him Sunny!

Happy Birthday, Alexis!  Happy Birthday, Kendall!  May you have many, many more birthdays! :)

George is Curious!

This is a Curious George Birthday cake for a little girl turning one.  The mom had the cutest George party ware and it made it super easy to come up with a design for the cake!  Stay tuned for a how-to on the bow loops!

Happy 1st Birthday, Grace!

This cake was for my daughter Grace’s first birthday party. It was a hit! Everyone loved it. Not only did it look fabulous, it tasted great! Emily did such a wonderful job. I could not have asked for any part of the experience to have been better. Emily is a true artist and professional. GREAT JOB! We will be back! ~ Cheryl

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

This cake was ordered for a Holiday party.  Kind of gets me in that Christmas spirit!   Maybe this rain outside will turn to snow…
